You have no idea what an amazing thing a bed is until you go 4 months without one. When we found out that we were moving to Portland, we did not own a single piece of furniture. Not one. So when we found out that we were moving from our fully furnished rental to an empty apartment, we knew that we would be going without a few things like a table or a bed for a while. And let me tell you, Craigslist has become my best friend. We were able to find a great couch before we left Utah, and we slowly picked up other things that we needed while we have been here, but the bed was the last thing that was missing. A bed is just such a big purchase that we put it off until last. Think about it. It's what you spend a 1/3 of your day on and you'll have it for years. It's a big deal. But, finally, sleeping on an air mattress every night got to be a little much for the both of us. We
kept waking each other up during the night from each other's movements, and we both started to get sore in the morning. But we found a little place that is literally right around the corner from our place that makes mattresses locally. We walked over one day to check it out and found that it is awesome! They have a ton of great beds for amazing prices! And really great quality too. Everything was just falling into place. And to top it all off, when we found the mattress that we liked and lied down to test it out, what should be playing on the radio but "Sweet Caroline." For those of you that know Craig, you know that he has a major man-crush on Neil Diamond. He is his idol. We knew right then and there that we had found our bed. And not only did it happen once, but twice. The same exact song was playing when we went back to purchase it. And this was satellite radio too, not just some tape that the store plays over and over. It was fate. And it has been a great bed. And now that we have our bed, our apartment is beginning to feel like home. My wonderful Mother-in-law made the beautiful quilt for our wedding that we use for a bed spread. And now all I need to do is paint and the room will
be complete.

It is especially close to both of our work and we are able to walk to work every morning which has been wonderful. I recently started a new job at Deseret Book which is right around the corner from our apartment, and Craig is really liking his new job and the people that he works with. It's great because three other people that started around the same time that he did and their wives are also in our ward, and we have all become good friends. We really love our ward and our callings too. Craig teaches the seven year-olds in primary (boy are they a rowdy bunch!) and I work with the young women as a Beehive advisor. It's wonderful to be settling in to such a great place and we look forward to being here in the future. Of course we haven't experienced Portland's stormy winters yet. . . . :)
